The Wild Steelhead
The Wild Steelhead is a one way trail race scheduled for July 17, 2027, running between Riggins and McCall, Idaho. The planned route starts at Island Bar near Riggins and finishes at Gordon Tiitus Lot, also called the Goose Creek Falls Trailhead, near McCall.
Distances:
- 105K (65 mi)
- 35K (22 mi)
The 105K route is planned to include roughly 15,000 to 16,000 feet of climb and about 11,000 feet of descent. Major climbs include an initial 7,000 foot ascent and a later 5,000 foot ascent, plus additional smaller rollers. The shorter 35K option is described as a one way course with about 7,000 feet of climb and 1,000 feet of descent.
Logistics reflect the one way format. Organizers are arranging bus transport from Titus Lot to the start; crew drop off at the start is also possible. Crews, pacers, and mule support are allowed for the long race, with crew zones planned along Goose Lake Road. For the 35K finish at Cleyburn Trailhead, participants will need a return ride to McCall or to their vehicle at Titus Lot; the Titus Lot to Cleyburn drive is about 24 miles of forest road and roughly 60 minutes.
Aid and kit plans for the 105K include four aid stations, three of which will permit crew access, plus additional water stations. The first 22 miles will have only a water station. Organizers indicate mandatory kit is likely and recommend carrying a small water filter and sufficient calories.
Registration opens January 2, 2027 at 12:00 AM Mountain time. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
