Center of the Nation – Mainly Marathons
Center of the Nation is a six-day marathon series held Monday, September 27 through Saturday, October 2, 2027, with one race each day in a different state: Wyoming, Colorado, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, and Montana. Each day uses a looped course at a local park or recreation area and offers multiple distance options.
Daily locations and course notes include: Day 1 : Lions Park, Cheyenne, WY: mixed paved and concrete paths, some shade, estimated 48' elevation gain per lap, tentative 14 laps for the marathon. Day 2 : Pioneer Park, Sterling, CO: loose gravel trail, moderate shade, 40' gain, tentative 14 laps. Day 3 : Chadron State Park, Chadron, NE: mostly asphalt with a short grass/dirt section, moderate shade, 46' gain, tentative 14 laps. Day 4 : Rocky Point Recreation Area, near Belle Fourche, SD: smooth asphalt, little shade, 16' gain, tentative 14 laps. Day 5 : North Shore Marina, Bowman, ND: mostly asphalt with some gravel, very little shade, 23' gain, tentative 12 laps. Day 6 : Triangle Park, Baker, MT: gravel start then closed asphalt road, very little shade, 24' gain, tentative 14 laps.
Packet pickup is available before the series and on each race day. The organizer states a "no runner left behind" policy with no time limit for most races, though the final day has a 10 hour time limit and participants must finish at least 30 minutes before park closing. Pets are not allowed; strollers are permitted. A single large aid station supplies food and drink, and a mobile kitchen is used.
All participants receive a shirt and multiple medals including state-specific medals; completing all six days earns a bonus Series Finisher medal. Discounts and registration methods, fee ranges, and refund and transfer policies are published by the organizer. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
