About the race
LøpeBirken is presented as Norway's largest trail running event, held in the Lillehammer and Sjusjøen area with multiple distance options and separate youth and children races. The festival includes a range of terrain: forest trails, gress, stier, skitraseer and sections with roots, stone and occasional wet or muddy parts.
Distances available:
- 7,5 km
- 12 km
- 21 km
- 42 km
- 60 km
- UngdomsBirken (about 5 km) and several BarneBirken classes (500–1 900 m)
Course details vary by distance. The Birkebeinerløpet (21 km) runs from Birkebeineren Skistadion to Håkons Hall, with about 337 m climb and mixed underlag. UltraBirken (60 km) starts at Sjusjøen, reaches about 1 072 m at the highest point and lists total ascent of 1 258 m. Fjellmaraton (42 km) and UltraBirken share high mountain terrain, droppsoner and sections that can be wet or steinete.
Practical arrangements described include parking areas, shuttle buses and direct buses from Oslo for some starts, bag drop at start with collection in the finish area, and dropp-poser for long races. UltraBirken requires a mandatory pack (food, drink, clothes, reflective vest and mobile). Food and drink at stations and in the finish area are included in the entry fee. Safety and race rules note no headphones, no pets, visible bib at front, licences required for most ages, shoe sole limits for trail races and a 15-minute penalty for littering.
