Longest Night Run

The Longest Night Run is a community vigil held across the Winter Solstice night, from December 21 to 22. Participants run, walk, trike or relay through the night as a shared way to remember people who have died and to honor those experiencing difficult seasons in life. The event offers an overnight relay in Steinbach, Manitoba, and a virtual participation option.

The event began as a symbolic gesture to support a friend facing cancer and continued in its eighth year in 2025 as a way to support others going through hardship. In southern Manitoba the Winter Solstice night equates to about 16 hours of darkness, from sunset to sunrise on the 22nd, and the event is framed as moving through that darkness together rather than alone.

The organizer notes that registration and details for future editions are announced separately, with 2026 details coming soon. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
