About the race
The Laps For Love Backyard Ultra is a community-focused endurance race held in Wichita, KS at Sedgwick County Park, with the start and finish located near the Plum Shelter area. The event follows the traditional Backyard Ultra format: runners complete repeated loops of 4.167 miles, a new loop begins on the hour, and participants must finish each loop within that hour to continue. Remaining minutes between loops are intended for rest, refueling, and equipment adjustments. The race has no preset distance or time limit and continues until only one runner completes a full loop alone.
The course uses a paved path with minimal elevation change. Course maps and final details are provided to entrants before race day, and some runners may be able to preview course options in advance. Runners must supply their own nutrition and personal supplies; crews are welcome at the start and finish area. A main aid station at the start/finish will offer water, electrolytes, Ultraverse Supplements Proxima C, simple hot food as the event progresses, and additional items while supplies last. Crews may bring tents, chairs, coolers, and other gear, but pacers are not allowed.
All runners who complete at least one loop receive a finisher item. T-shirt distribution depended on registration before the stated deadline, which has now passed. One hundred dollars from every race registration is donated to Family Promise of Greater Wichita to support emergency shelter, case management and housing stability programs, and rental assistance. Weather in Kansas can vary; there are no refunds or deferrals for this charity event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
