About the race
The Lake Martin 50/50 is a trail ultramarathon held on the private Russell Forest Trail System at Russell Lands, near Lake Martin in Alexander City, AL. The event is organized by Southeastern Trail Runs and is based at 17 Russell Farms Road (GPS 32.764355, -85.945177). The course is a 25.09 mile loop with rolling hills and shoreline scenery. Each full loop contains over 3,000 feet of elevation gain.
Most hills are short and generally under 100 feet, while a half mile climb called Heaven Hill gains about 200 feet. Trails are described as runnable and non-technical by regional standards, but runners should watch for roots and sections with fist sized granite. Race formats: - 50 Mile: two full laps of the 25.09 mile course. - 50K: one full 25.09 mile lap plus a 6.4 mile South Loop repeat. Aid stations are positioned so each 25 mile loop includes four stops, with two at Heaven Hill and two at The Cabin Aid Station. Stations will offer water, electrolytes, grab and go snacks, and hot food.
A medic will be present at the start and finish area. Weekend activities include packet pickup on the day before and the morning of the race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
