About the race
The Labor Day Trail Challenge is a multi-distance trail event held at McKinney Roughs Nature Park in Cedar Creek, Texas on September 5, 2026. The course uses dirt single-track and fire roads with rolling elevation and technical sections, including box canyons and ridge lines with up to 469 feet of elevation gain. River overlooks provide scenic bluff-top views of the Colorado River. The park contains four distinct ecosystems in a single course: Post Oak Savannah, Blackland Prairie, East Texas Piney Woods, and a riparian corridor.
Aid stations are positioned on course and are stocked with water, electrolytes, and snacks. The event is chip timed and the trail course is not stroller friendly. Free parking is available in the main lot with overflow parking nearby. Available formats range from short trail distances to ultra distances and timed formats.
The event includes an 8-hour solo run or an 8-hour relay where teams complete as many loops as they can within the clock and make exchanges at a main transition zone. The half marathon ruck division requires a minimum pack weight of 20 lb for athletes under 150 lb and 30 lb for athletes 150 lb or over; weights are checked at the start and finish. This race is the second event in the Rodeo Trail Run Series.
