Krayzie Midwinter Backyard Ultra : Spencer Park, Christchurch
Krayzie Midwinter Backyard Ultra is an ultramarathon held on 26th June 2027 and repeated every Matariki weekend thereafter until the organiser retires. The event uses a repeating-lap format: entrants must complete consecutive laps of 6.706 km (about 20–40 m vertical gain per lap). Each lap must be completed within the hour, and the race ends when one person completes one more lap than anyone else.
Loops start exactly one hour after the previous loop. There are warning whistles at 3, 2 and 1 minute before each start; entrants must be in the starting corral when the bell goes. Runners may not leave the course during a lap except for toilet stops; flushing toilets are located in the event village and are passed each lap. No personal aid is allowed while on course; assistance and gear are allowed only in the event village during the time remaining after a lap is finished and before the next start. The event is self supported; organisers will have extra water on hand but will not operate an aid station. Artificial aids including poles are prohibited. The last runner to complete a full loop is the winner; all others are recorded as DNF. Use of noise blocking headphones is prohibited and a quiet zone is enforced between dusk and dawn.
Event village details include an allocated 3 m x 4 m space per entrant for a gazebo, no campers or wheeled aid areas on the grass, a heated lodge with power and hot water, and coin-operated washing machines and dryers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
