Kootenay Fun 5 in Cranbrook
The Kootenay Fun 5 is an annual community 5 km event in Cranbrook that supports Kootenay Christian Academy. The event offers two race formats and directs net proceeds to sport and technology initiatives at the school.
The course begins on the school field adjacent to 1100 Kootenay Street North, follows local streets including Kootenay St. N., 30th Ave. N., Stahl Road, Kokanee Drive and Rotary Way, and returns to the school property. The route is paved or packed gravel. Course marshals and first aid attendants are stationed along the route, and water stations are placed at the start/finish area and at the halfway point.
Practical details: registration is handled through Eventbrite; refunds are not available but transfers are permitted by updating the Eventbrite registration. All participants must wear the race bib issued to them; the timing chip is disposable and attached to the paper bib. The first 500 registrants receive an official race t-shirt and a swag bag. Children under 5 are free if they do not request a t-shirt. Strollers are allowed and stroller-pushers are required to start with the walkers. The event typically expects over 600 participants. Awards include medals for the top three male and female finishers in each age group and an overall prize for first place male and female.
