About the race
The Knacker Cracker is a single-distance trail running event held on 1 January 2027. The advertised distance is exactly 10.000 km and the route includes five major ascents of Box Hill, with 473 m of total ascent and 335 m of total descent. The course runs mainly on rough tracks and offers views across the North Downs, the Mole Gap, Denbies Vineyard and Dorking.
Race headquarters, parking and registration are at Denbies Vineyard; the race starts at the bottom of Box Hill and finishes at the top of Box Hill. If Box Hill is unavailable, an alternative "B" course around Denbies Vineyard will be used. Participants are advised that the course is steep, slippery, rutted, bramble-ridden and muddy in places, and there may be fallen trees or other overhead hazards. Trail shoes are recommended; spikes or studs are not permitted. Headphones and earphones are not allowed on the course.
There is a bag and key drop at the start; bags and keys will be transported to the finish. A water station with water and sweets is provided at about 6 km. A children's event, the Nipper Knacker, runs alongside the main race. Prize giving will take place at the finish. Marshals are needed to help with parking, course signalling and finish procedures; marshals receive soup and rolls and a free place at a future race.
