About the race

Kilworth Backyard Ultra is a backyard ultra held in County Cork on Saturday 19th September 2026. The event uses a looped course of 6.7 km with 125 m of climb per loop, run on wide forest trail, single track and forest road with no tarmac. The route is fully marked; marshals are stationed at major junctions during the first two loops. GPS devices are permitted. Aid is available at the start/finish area only.

Entry fee is €50 and the field is limited to 100 places. Parking is limited; stewards will assist and competitors are encouraged to carpool. A grassy area near the start is available for tents and basic overnight setup; organisers will be onsite from the evening before the race. Two portable toilets and lighting are provided near the start area. Light snacks, water, hot tea and coffee will be available; a BBQ will operate from mid-afternoon and each runner receives two burger vouchers.

This event follows standard backyard ultra rules: each loop starts exactly on the hour; late starts are not allowed; runners who do not complete a loop within the hour or who leave the course are eliminated. Head torches are mandatory from the 7pm loop until sunrise. Trekking poles and loud speakers are not permitted. Mandatory kit is Level C and includes waterproof jacket, hat or buff, gloves, whistle, charged mobile, foil blanket or bivvy, waterproof full leg cover, 500 mL water carrying means, emergency food, map and compass. Random kit checks may be carried out. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
