Kilworth Backyard Ultra
Kilworth Backyard Ultra is a backyard-format running event held in Glensheskin Woods, County Cork on Saturday 19th September 2026. The event uses a looped course of 6.7 km with approximately 125 m of climb per loop. The surface is a mix of wide forest trail, single-track trail and forest road with no tarmac. The route is fully marked and marshals are positioned at major junctions during the first two loops.
The race follows standard Backyard Ultra rules. Each loop must be completed within one hour; laps start on the hour and late starts are not allowed. Runners cannot leave the course or receive outside assistance once a loop has started. Head torches become mandatory from the 7 pm loop until sunrise. The event continues until one runner completes one more loop than every other competitor, producing a single winner; all others are recorded as DNF.
Entry fee is €50 and the event is listed as sold out with 100 places filled. Organisers provide light snacks, hot drinks and a BBQ during the event; aid is concentrated at the start/finish area. Parking space is limited and stewards will manage parking. This is the second edition of the Kilworth Backyard Ultra. Competitors must carry mandatory kit at the event, including a waterproof jacket, hat or buff, gloves, whistle, charged mobile phone, survival blanket or bivvy, waterproof full leg cover, at least 500 mL water, emergency food, and map and compass; random kit checks may be carried out.
