Kennekuk Road Runners - Dogs & Cats
This community event at Kennekuk County Preserve Hideaway in Danville, Illinois offers two ways to participate and supports the Vermilion County Animal Shelter. Participants can run or walk on park trails and are asked to bring donations for the shelter. Kennekuk Road Runners turns over event profits to the shelter and will pay the adoption fees for the first adoption.
Event options include:
- 5K The Howl at the Moon Loop only
- Five hour event Run or walk for five hours on Howl Loop or Lake Mingo
Registration opens February 25, 2027 and closes July 9, 2027. The listed registration fees are $35 for the 5K and $30 for the five hour event. A small number of T shirts will be available for purchase on site from Kennekuk Road Runners and the shelter; cash is suggested for those purchases. Food will be provided for five hour participants after the event concludes.
The shelter welcomes donations such as pet food, newspaper, kitty litter, cleaning supplies, grooming items, collars and leashes. The shelter maintains a website and an Amazon wish list for additional donation options. Animals from the shelter will be on site so attendees may interact with dogs and cats during the event.
