About the race
Keji's Backyard Ultra is a backyard ultra held at Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site with the start and registration at the Jim Charles Point parking lot. The 2027 edition is the event's sixth annual running and the field is capped at 175 runners.
The format uses hourly out-and-back loops of 6.67 km. Each hour a runner must complete the loop within one hour; finishing earlier allows resting and socializing until the next loop. Runners who exceed one hour on a loop are removed from the race. The organizer lists the course as an out-and-back on gravel with roughly 35 m of ascent per loop.
Cash payout tiers are published for the final margins between first and second place: 50 yards or less pays $1,500 to the winner and $500 to the assist; 51 to 75 yards pays $2,500 and $1,000; 76 yards or more pays $5,000 and $1,500.
Practical details from the event page: registration includes custom NSTR swag and draw prize eligibility; the race was shown as sold out and a waitlist exists. The event limits two vehicles per runner; additional crew and spectators must park elsewhere in the park. Refund and transfer policies are noted: 75 percent refund up to March 1, 2027, 50 percent refund up to May 15, 2027; transfers are not allowed; deferrals are permitted for those who volunteer an eight hour shift at this event or at the Capes 100 in August.
