About the race
The Karwendelmarsch is an annual endurance event held on the last Saturday in August with a maximum field of 2,500 participants. It runs through the Karwendel mountain range from Scharnitz to Pertisau at the Achensee and is offered in marcher and runner classifications.
The main route covers 52 km and 2,300 m of elevation gain over forest roads, mountain trails and steeper alpine passages. A shorter option finishes in the Eng after 35 km. Key route features include the Karwendelhaus (around 18 km, 1,771 m), the small Ahornboden (about 25 km), the Falkenhütte and Hohljoch en route to the Eng, and the Binsalm and Gramai Hochleger on the final section toward Pertisau. Two late-stage refreshment points are mentioned near Gramai and Falzthurn.
The event provides ten aid stations with organic food, downloadable GPX data via the interactive map, chip timing integrated in the race bib, and finisher medals and packages at both finish locations. Dogs are not permitted. Walking poles are allowed. Transfers to and from start and finish are offered subject to separate registration; public transport from Pertisau is an alternative. Time limits and safety rules apply; participants who miss limits are removed from rankings. Organizers highlight sustainability and cooperation with the Naturpark Karwendel.
