INYO - June Lake, California
INYO is a mountain trail event on Saturday, August 21, 2027, in the June Lake area of the Eastern Sierra. Participants choose one route and one carrying category and must complete the selected route to record an official INYO completion.
Distances and elevation gain:
- 6 miles with about 1,919 ft of climbing
- 14 miles with about 3,711 ft of climbing
- 26 miles with about 5,978 ft of climbing
Each distance offers three categories: Runner (no required weight), Light (10 lbs dry) and Heavy (25 lbs dry). Required finishing standards are given as a Pass time and a Dog Tag time; finishing inside the Dog Tag time earns the INYO Dog Tag, finishing inside the Pass time records an official completion. Pass and Dog Tag times differ by distance.
All routes start and finish in the June Lake area and travel into the Eastern Sierra through pine forest, granite ridgelines, exposed mountain trail and alpine lakes. Navigation is self-managed; participants must download the provided AllTrails route for offline use. There are no checkpoints and candidates are solo and self-sufficient.
Equipment and safety notes include carrying required dry weight, sufficient water plus an emergency reserve, minimum rations, a personal medical kit and mountain layers including wet and cold weather gear. Altitudes range from about 9,300 ft to 10,500 ft and weather can change quickly; extraction from remote terrain may be delayed. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
