About the race
The INFERNO Triathlon is an alpine long-distance triathlon in the Bernese Oberland with a total of 5'500 metres of climbing. The race uses mountain terrain and public roads and combines multiple disciplines: an open-water swim, long road and mountain bike sections, and a mountain run. The event includes a limited field of 333 athletes and finishes on the Schilthorn, with the swim start at the Strandbad Thun. The competition is accompanied by a detailed timetable, mandatory equipment rules and safety measures adapted to alpine conditions.
A full-body neoprene suit is compulsory for the swim; neoprene gloves and booties are not allowed. Helmets approved for cycling are mandatory for both road and mountain bike legs. Drafting is forbidden and traffic rules apply because roads are not closed. Entries are tiered by date with defined fees; certain services are included such as mountain railway rides, pasta parties, T shirt, clothing transport, aid stations, first aid and massage.
Prize money is awarded to top finishers overall and category winners receive commemorative prizes. The organiser may change the route and enforces medical and referee decisions for safety reasons. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
