HURT100
HURT100 is the Hawaiian Ultra Running Team’s Trail 100-Mile Endurance Run. The course runs through Hawaiʻi’s rain forest above the city of Honolulu and uses trails within the jurisdiction of the State of Hawai‘i Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of Forestry and Wildlife, Nā Ala Hele program. The event is described as very difficult and is intended for well prepared ultrarunners.
Course mapping and navigation materials are provided in several formats. A geo-referenced PDF is recommended for those not familiar with the course; it can show a runner’s real-time GPS location in the map app and works offline if set up in advance. A GPX file is available for a single 20 mile loop of the HURT100 course. KML files are provided for viewing the course in 3D with Google Earth. Organizers note that GPS errors in the mountains can be large and that runners must constantly look out for trail hazards.
Race weekend activities listed for recent events include a shake-out run, a pre-race briefing, bib distribution, runner tracking, and an awards banquet. Printed maps from the Book of HURT are also recommended to carry on the course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
