Honest Abe Trail Run Marathon / 14K / 5K
The Honest Abe Trail Run is held at Lincoln State Park in Lincoln City, Spencer County, Indiana. Races start near the Lincoln Amphitheatre inside the park. The event offers three distances and has no participant cap; organizers prefer pre-registration and manage online registration windows with early pricing and later price increases.
The course options:
- Marathon three loops encircling the park
- 14K one loop of the primary course
- 5K on paved and gravel roads
The primary trail course is mostly double-track with some gravel and a few road crossings. Aid support includes two stations: one at the start/finish area and one at the loop midpoint (4.3 miles). Aid stations provide water, Gatorade, bananas, and snacks. There is no aid station along the 5K route. Marathon runners may use drop bags left at the start/finish; these will be available at miles 9.1 and 17.7 and will be exposed to the elements.
Time limits are enforced: any participant taking more than seven hours will be recorded as DNF; marathoners who have not begun the third loop by the five-hour mark will be recorded as DNF. Awards go to the top two male and female finishers in each race. The event maintains the park entry fee to encourage carpooling and lists nearby towns for lodging and park camping and cabins.
