Headwaters Trail Runs
Headwaters Trail Runs are trail races held in the Klamath Mountains west of Mount Shasta City, CA, on June 19, 2027. The event offers three distances with distinct courses and terrain.
- 52k - mountainous loop on single-track and dirt roads, ~8,000 feet elevation gain.
- 34k - mountainous loop on single-track and dirt roads, ~4,000 feet elevation gain.
- 10k - Lake Siskiyou Trail along Lake Siskiyou, ~400 feet gain, 99% dirt surface.
The 52k and 34k are loop courses run entirely on single-track trails and dirt forest roads and include sections of the historic Sisson-Callahan National Recreation Trail. The 10k follows the Lake Siskiyou Trail along the forested lake shore and includes a short paved section across the Box Canyon Dam.
Runners see Mt. Shasta and Mt. Eddy as the backdrop. The event provides fully stocked aid stations and operates as a cupless race, so participants must carry their own means to drink at aid stations. After the races, participants receive an organic post-race meal prepared by a local chef, a commemorative race t-shirt, and a unique finisher medal.
The event donates a portion of proceeds annually to the Mt. Shasta High School cross-country team. Headwaters Trail Runs is a project of the Associated Charitable Resource of South Siskiyou ACROSS and operates under a special use permit with the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. The event acknowledges that it occurs on the traditional homelands of several local Indigenous peoples. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
