Headless Horseman BYU

Headless Horseman BYU is a trail running event held at Sleepy Hollow State Park in Laingsburg, MI (7835 E Price Rd, 48848). The course is a loop measuring 4.167 miles with about 151 ft of elevation gain. The route passes through prairie grass fields, hardwood forest, stands of pine trees, and follows a river through the woods.

Two event options are available:

  • Single loop option around the BYU course, one lap of 4.167 miles.
  • 12 hour Back Yard Ultra option, repeated 4.167 mile laps; completing 12 hours equals 50 miles.

The Back Yard Ultra follows last person standing rules. Runners begin each lap at the top of the hour and must complete the lap within the hour; failing to start on time results in elimination. Timing is by chip with each lap recorded and live results provided. A single aid station with snacks and drinks is located near the start and finish; there will not be an aid station on the loop. A headlamp is required for laps run after sunset.

Event entries receive race swag including a T-shirt and patch, with additional items for finishers of the 12 hour event. Awards include Playmakers gift cards for overall and age group finishers and trophies for backyard ultra winners. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
