Hare Mountain 100
Hare Mountain 100 is a set of trail races on the Ozark Highlands Trail in northwestern Arkansas, centered on a point to point 100 mile event that uses rugged sections of the Boston Mountains. The terrain is rocky and steep through hardwood, cedar and pine forests and includes creek crossings, waterfalls, bluffs, sandstone outcrops and notable fall color. Hare Mountain reaches about 2400 feet and the route uses roughly 100 miles of the most difficult sections of the OHT.
Distances

The race emphasizes self reliance and navigation. The course is not marked with plastic flagging; it is marked with white blazes on the main trail, blue blazes on spurs and wooden trail signs. The GPX file is required on a phone for all distances. A satellite GPS tracker is required for the 100 and live tracking is used. Aid stations exist but some legs approach 12 miles between major stations.
Elevation gain measurements vary by device, reported between about 17,000 and 24,400 feet with common estimates slightly over 20,000 feet. A shuttle to the 100 start is available for a fee. The finish area at Shores Lake is a family friendly Halloween themed gathering. Pacers may join from a designated aid station. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
