About the race
The Hanmer Half is a trail running event in Hanmer Springs that uses the Hanmer Heritage Forest and nearby alpine surroundings. The event has been run since 1981 and is presented as a scenic autumn forest race with views from nearby mountains and stands of 100-year-old trees. Organisers describe crisp alpine air and golden autumn colours along the courses.
Two distances are offered:
- 21 km Hanmer Forest Trail, which begins with a climb up Conical Hill and then descends into forest running trails.
- 10.5 km Heritage Traverse, a relatively flat course that follows the edge of the Hanmer Springs Heritage Forest and winds through mature woodlands.
The event is owned by the Hanmer Springs Community Trust and managed by Nduro Events. A portion of entry fees and any profits are allocated to local community projects, including contributions to the Hanmer Springs Health Centre.
