About the race
The Gulf Coast Grind is a run and ruck event held at Surfside Beach, TX (3312 County Rd 257, Surfside Beach, TX 77541). The course runs along the water on hard packed sand and uses an out-and-back loop format with multiple distance options.
Distances offered:
- 50K
- Marathon (26.2 miles)
- Half-marathon (13.1 miles)
- 10K
- 5K
The field is limited to 400 participants. There are two full aid stations, located at the start/finish area and at mile 5, stocked with drinks, sodas, sweets, salty snacks, PB&Js and bean burrito rolls, fruit, and basic medical supplies (NSAIDs are not provided). The event is cupless; runners are expected to use reusable cups, bottles, or hydration packs. Drop bags are collected at the main aid area and transported to the mile 5 station.
Pacers are not allowed. A 12-hour overall cutoff applies and runners must begin their final loop before the cutoff. All finishers receive medals and event shirts. Awards are given to top finishers by distance and category, including top ruckers and masters 50+, with male, female, and non-binary classifications. Volunteer shifts are available and include park entry, a camping area, merchandise, a provided meal, and registration benefits for repeat shifts.
