Grootvadersbosch Trail Run : Grootvadersbosch Nature Reserve, Western Cape
The event is a trail running day held inside the Grootvadersbosch Nature Reserve at the GVB Eco Cabins near Heidelberg. Entry is by pre-entry only with a limit of 120 places and entries close on 7 Feb 2027 or when the entry limit is reached. Both distance options take place on the same day.
Distances offered:
- 30 km – mountain trails via Boosmansbos, approx 1700 m altitude gain/loss.
- 14 km – forest and lower mountain trails, approx 820 m altitude gain/loss.
Age and entry requirements: the 30 km entry is open to participants aged over 18. A kit check will be performed at the start for both distances. Compulsory kit for the 30 km includes a charged cell phone, at least 2 L water capacity, whistle, 100% waterproof rain jacket with hood and long sleeves, and a mini first aid kit. Compulsory kit for the 14 km includes a charged cell phone, at least 1 L water capacity, whistle, wind-shell (or waterproof jacket in rain), and a space blanket; a mini first aid kit is highly recommended.
Fees and inclusions: entry fees are R1450 for the 30 km and R790 for the 14 km. The fee covers a branded trail cap or visor, a Cape Nature Conservation event permit, use of the conference centre for start and finish, a farm boerewors roll (vegetarian option available) at the finish, finish drinks, self-help coffee and tea, staffed marshals, accommodation for marshals, and prize-giving spot prizes. Final route files and additional run information will be emailed to entrants after entries close.
Route and safety notes: there are no water tables on route; drinkable mountain streams may be available but are not guaranteed except near Saagkuilskloof around 24 km on the long route. Weather can be unpredictable and runners must prepare accordingly. No smoking, no earphones, and no pets are allowed in the reserve.
