Grind on the Grid Backyard Ultra
Grind on the Grid Backyard Ultra takes place in Wingate, IN on April 17, 2027. The event uses a repeating loop called a yard. Each yard is a measured circuit of 4 miles 880 feet, arranged as an out and back with a short grass trail loop near the end.
The running surface is mixed: about 0.5 mile of gravel, 0.5 mile of grass, and 3.167 miles of road with shoulders. The course layout is designed from four one mile straightaways plus a short connection to the start and finish.
Key race procedures are specified. Each loop begins precisely one hour after the previous loop; warnings are given at three, two, and one minute before the start. All competitors must start at the bell and late starts are not permitted. Except for restroom stops, competitors must remain on course until a loop is completed. Portapotties will be located near the starting corral.
No non-competitors are allowed on the course, including eliminated runners. Personal aid during a loop is not allowed, though common aid stations are permitted. Artificial aids including trekking poles are prohibited. Organizers will track who finishes each loop but will not provide official split timing for individual laps.
The winner is the last person to complete a loop; all others are recorded as DNF with results given as distance covered. Tent or canopy setup is allowed the night before with details to follow.
