About the race
The Grim Reaper is a trail running event at Grimsthorpe Castle, Bourne, on a single 10-mile loop around the estate. Races use the same loop, which passes grass trails, ancient woodland, limestone tracks, quiet estate roads and a disused Victorian railway line, and skirts the estate lake. The course is fully marked, undulating with about 550 ft of climb per lap and no major hills. Trail shoes are recommended.
Available race formats
- 10 miles day or night, solo.
- 40 miles solo, four laps.
- 70 miles solo, seven laps.
- 100 miles solo, ten laps.
- 100-mile relay teams up to five.
Support and logistics include an aid station at mile 5 (water, limited snacks, toilet), a cupless policy so runners should bring their own cup, fully qualified medics on site, and hot food and drinks available near the start/finish on Saturday. Camping is permitted on site Friday and Saturday nights next to the start and finish. Pacers are permitted for the 70- and 100-mile races from mile 50, and finishers receive a medal; trophies are awarded to the top three male and female finishers in each solo race and to the winning relay team.
Rules and requirements note strict cut-offs for ultra distances, age minimums (no under 16 for 10-mile races; no under 18 for ultra distances), mandatory kit for longer races after 6pm, and that changing distance after entry is not permitted.
