About the race
Grand Island Trail Runs take place on July 31, 2027, on Grand Island just offshore from Munising, Michigan. The event offers multiple trail distances that use the island’s perimeter trails, beaches and interior singletrack.
Distances
- 50 Mile
- 50K
- Marathon
- Half Marathon
Courses follow a mix of singletrack, two-track and narrow dirt roads, plus sections of sandy beach and faster dirt forest roads. Routes include the tombolo, Trout Bay, Murray Bay, Duck Lake, Echo Lake, and views of Pictured Rocks and the island’s colored Jacobsville sandstone cliffs and North Beach. Much of the trail is shaded by hardwood forest and is marked with colored flags, directional arrows and mile markers.
Aid station support varies by distance. The 50K has five aid stations with two visited twice (seven stops total); the marathon shares most 50K stations; the half marathon has two stations plus the finish. All runners must carry a 20 oz water bottle or other functional hydration system that can be refilled at aid stations. Aid offerings include water, an electrolyte drink (Gnarly Fuel2O), and sweet and salty snacks, plus fruit.
Logistics note that parking at the ferry dock is limited, shuttles run from designated lots, and a ferry ride to the island is included with registration. Entrant limit is 500 runners. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
