Grand Canyon Trail Half Marathon
The Grand Canyon Trail Half Marathon is scheduled for October 24, 2026, near Grand Canyon Village, Arizona, on the Coconino Plateau within the Kaibab National Forest. The event is in its eighth year and is produced by life-long runners. The half-marathon distance is 13.4 miles. Registrants receive a souvenir race shirt and all finishers receive a commemorative medallion. The listed registration fee for the half-marathon is $80.00.
The course begins with a half mile on sidewalk, then continues for about 11.5 miles on forest jeep roads with sections that are rugged and rocky, soft dirt, and hard-packed dirt forest roads. The final mile is a rolling paved section on the Arizona Trail path. Vegetation along the route includes ponderosa pine, Gambel oak, New Mexico locust, mountain mahogany, elderberry, creeping mahonia, and fescue. The course includes hills and rugged terrain; top runners are reported to be about ten minutes slower here than on road half-marathons. Morning temperatures are most likely in the 30s and 40s Fahrenheit with daytime highs often in the 60s to 70s, though conditions can vary at roughly 7,000 feet elevation. The half-marathon course is not suitable for chair athletes. Pets may not accompany participants on the course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
