Goyt Valley Challenge
The Goyt Valley Challenge is a Peak District challenge event organised by the High Peak local group on Sat 3rd Oct 2026. The event starts and finishes at Buxton Community School, College Road, Buxton, Derbyshire SK17 9EA, with car parking at the College Road entrance and marshals available to direct vehicles if necessary.
There are two route options through the Western Peak District:
- 26.2 mile route via Axe Edge, Goyt Valley, Shining Tor, Lamaload Reservoir and more, total ascent 4000 ft.
- 14.3 mile route via Axe Edge and the Goyt Valley, returning via Fernilee Dam, total ascent 2000 ft.
Parts of both routes cross moorland and areas of the Peak District National Park. Participants should wear or carry suitable equipment for the terrain and weather, including suitable footwear, waterproofs, warm clothing, a map, compass and a whistle. Under 18s are permitted but must be accompanied by a responsible adult; the entrant accepts responsibility for any under 18 they register. Dogs are not allowed on the event.
Refreshments are provided at checkpoints and a hot meal is available at the finish. Entry fees are specified for LDWA members and non members, and commemorative items such as a mug and Buff are available to purchase. Certificates are offered to finishers on request.
