Go-pher Weedon 8K Trail Run
The Go-pher Weedon Trail Run is the 14th annual 8-kilometer trail event held on October 24, 2026, at Weedon Island Preserve in St. Petersburg, Florida. The course follows well-maintained dirt and boardwalk trails through native Florida habitats, including mangroves, salt marsh and Florida scrub, and offers views of Tampa Bay. The preserve covers about 3,700 acres and the route passes relic Indian mounds and dune ridges; participants may encounter wildlife such as the gopher tortoise, a threatened species for which the race is named.
The event uses professional timing and posts race results. Registered participants receive a technical race T-shirt, access to refreshments and aid stations, and eligibility for overall and age-group awards. Educational and cultural activities at the Weedon Island Cultural and Natural History Center are included as part of race-day offerings.
There is no race day registration; online registration closes at 6:30 p.m. the Friday before the race and advance packet pickup is available that Friday from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Feet First St. Pete. Race-morning packet pickup takes place in the Cultural and Natural History Center auditorium. Parking at the center is limited; volunteers will direct overflow parking. Pets are not permitted in the preserve. Strollers are allowed in the preserve but not on the race course. Bug spray is suggested. All proceeds benefit Friends of Weedon Island, Inc., a 501(c)(3) organization that supports preservation and education at the preserve.
