About the race
The Golden Gate Headlands race weekend takes place in the Marin Headlands with the start and finish at the Historic Gunnery Range in Rodeo Valley, near the Marin Headlands Visitor Center and Fort Barry in Mill Valley, CA. The course combines single-track hiking trails and fire roads and offers views of the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco Bay, and the Pacific Ocean, with coastal hills and seasonal wildflowers visible from the summits.
Distances offered:
- Marathon
- Half Marathon
- 10K
The event is limited to 400 participants. The course is marked with orange ribbon. Marathoners run the half marathon loop twice and must check in at the finish before beginning the second loop. Athlete check-in is held at the field across from the Marin Headlands Visitor Center; bibs are mailed to participants and safety pins and course maps are available at check-in.
Aid stations are not present on the 10K. Half marathoners encounter one aid station at mile 6. Marathoners have aid stations at miles 6, 13, and 19; food and drink are provided at the finish. The course cut-off is six hours with published pace thresholds for each distance, and hikers and walkers are welcome. For safety, headphones and other audio devices are not allowed on narrow trail sections. Parking is at Smith Road toward Rodeo Beach with parking attendants and a short walk to check-in; the access tunnel operates as one-way traffic.
