Gil's Galavant Backyard Ultra : Wallumbilla Qld, 3 April 2027
Gil's Galavant is a backyard ultra held on a working cattle property of approximately 3000 acres near Wallumbilla, Queensland. Participants run repeated loops of 6.71 km, returning to a central corral at the end of each loop and camping on site during the event.
The format is hour-by-hour: a cattle bell signals the start of each new loop and whistle warnings sound at three, two, and one minute before the bell. Runners must begin each loop precisely on the bell; late starts are not permitted. A runner is eliminated if they do not complete a loop and return to the corral within the hour, are not present in the starting corral when the whistle blows, or choose to stop mid-loop and do not continue.
The event continues until only two runners remain. The second-to-last person to stop is recorded as the Assist; the Last One Standing is the final runner to complete a loop within the hour. If no one completes an additional loop within the time limit, no winner is declared. All other participants are recorded as DNF (Did Not Finish).
Entries open 1 September 2026, with a maximum of 200 entrants. Pricing varies by entry period; youths 15 and under enter free when accompanied by an adult. No bibs or electronic race tracking are required. Typical March temperatures in the area have a daytime average high of about 29.4°C and a nighttime average around 19.9°C.
