Galveston Sand Crab Nighttime Beach Run
The event stages three chip-timed races on Galveston’s R.A. Apffel East Beach Park, all run entirely on sand along East Beach on an out-and-back course. The course is marked with LED lights and runners are required to carry a flashlight or headlamp. All finishers receive a custom finisher medal.
Distances
- 5K
- 10K
- Kid’s Beach K (youth distance)
Support on course includes manned water stops with water and sports drink—two stops for the 5K and four stops for the 10K. The 5K has a two-hour course cutoff; the 10K shares the two-hour cutoff and requires runners to reach the halfway turnaround within one hour. The Kid’s K is an out-and-back for children with a 30-minute time limit, course marshals, adults leading the kids, a youth cotton tee included, and awards for the top three boys and girls. Parents may run with kids without an entry fee.
Packet pickup is available the Friday before the race at Galveston Island Brewing Co and on race day at the East Beach pavilion. Beach parking at Apffel Park is subject to a fee via automated camera; a free lot outside the park is first come, first served. The event benefits the Galveston Humane organization and includes a post-race gathering with beer from Galveston Island Brewing Co for those with proper ID.
