About the race

The Galtee Challenge Duo is a partner entry mountain race in County Tipperary covering a mountain circuit of approximately 25.50 km with about 1,800 m of climb. The route is rated Extreme and is not waymarked, although GPS devices are allowed. The event uses a series of control points in sequence, including Carrigeen (Monabrack), Cruach a Tarbh (Bull Hill), Sheep’s Pins, the stile at the start of Temple Hill, Temple Hill, Lyracappul (start of wall) and Galty Mor (trig point).

Entries open Sunday 6th September 2026 at 18:00 and close Wednesday 30th September 2026 at 18:00. Entry fees are listed as €7 for seniors and €5 for over 65s and under 18s. Places are limited to 200 entrants.

A Level C mandatory kit list applies and must be carried as required; listed items include a waterproof jacket with hood and taped seams, hat or buff, gloves, whistle, charged mobile phone with emergency number stored, foil blanket or bivvy, waterproof leg cover, at least 500 mL water carrying means, emergency food, map and compass. Final kit requirements will be confirmed at registration.

Race registration and parking take place at Kings Yard. Aid and cutoffs are indicated, with an aid station at about 13 km and refreshments, toilets and showers available at the finish. Tent pitches are available onsite. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
