Event options and distances:
- Frostbite 5K: 3.1 Miles
- Frostbite Plunge: polar plunge into Smith Mountain Lake
- Frostbite Challenge: 3.1 Miles plus polar plunge
The beach area will provide restrooms and showers for participants to rinse off and change into dry clothes. The event description lists warming areas, music, hot beverages, and complimentary post-event refreshments at the beach. State park parking is included with registration.
Registration opens 10/21/2026 and closes 11/30/2026. Published registration fees are $35.00 for the 5K, $15.00 for the plunge, and $40.00 for the combined challenge. A portion of event proceeds will benefit the Smith Mountain Lake YMCA, and additional donations can be made during registration and on-site.
The format accommodates both trail running or hiking and a separate lake plunge, with facilities on the beach to support participants before and after the plunge. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
