Freycinet Challenge 2026 : Course and format
The Freycinet Challenge is a two-day multi-sport event on the Freycinet Peninsula at Coles Bay in Tasmania, held on 3 and 4 October 2026. The event comprises eight separate stages, with four stages run on each day. Competitors may enter as solo athletes, as teams, or choose individual single stages.
Day 1 (Saturday 3 October 2026) stages:
- Stage 1 Trail Run : 17 km (Juniors 9 km)
- Stage 2 Sea Kayak : 10 km (Juniors 5 km)
- Stage 3 Road Bike Time Trial : 40 km
- Stage 4 Mountain Bike XC : 17 km (Juniors 14 km)
Day 2 (Sunday 4 October 2026) stages:
- Stage 5 Sea Kayak : 10 km (Juniors 5 km)
- Stage 6 Road Bike Time Trial : 40 km
- Stage 7 Mountain Bike XC : 17 km (Juniors 14 km)
- Stage 8 Trail Run : 10 km
Athletes compete in age categories with separate male and female divisions. Team categories are all male, all female, or mixed male and female. Maps are available for each stage. The event includes both a 2-day race format and a 1-day option that starts at stage 5, allowing participants who completed stages 1 to 4 to continue alongside 1-day entrants.
