Flyathlon 2026 - Red Deer

The Flyathlon is a multisport event that combines trail running, fishing, and craft beer. It is organized by Freshwater Conservation Canada and raises funds for freshwater ecosystem projects.

The total route distance is 5 km. The course begins at Canada 150 Place, crosses a bridge along the river, loops around Kiwanis Picnic Park, and returns toward Canada 150 Place to finish at Troubled Monk in Red Deer, AB. Participants run with their rods and gear and may stop along the trail to cast and attempt to catch fish. Fishing is catch and release; participants are asked to record species and estimated size for prize eligibility.

Volunteers described as fish whisperers will be available along the route to assist participants with fishing. Registration includes a race tee, race bib, one drink ticket valid at Troubled Monk, food from Bo's Sandwich Shop, small treats, and a $50 tax receipt. Participants are required to meet a minimum fundraising amount; funds raised support on-the-ground conservation work. The event promotes responsible fishing practices and trail habits. The event policy states there are no refunds. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
