FATS 50K, Half Marathon, and 10K
The FATS event takes place at the Forks Area Trail System within the Sumter National Forest near North Augusta, South Carolina. The course consists of well-maintained single-track trails featuring rolling terrain with rocks and roots. The route is 99% single-track and is largely shaded.
Participants can choose from three distinct distances:
- 50K: A multi-loop course using the Great Wall, Skinny, and Brown Wave loops.
- Half Marathon: Two laps on the Skinny loop.
- 10K: A single lap on the Skinny loop.
The event follows a cup-free policy, requiring participants to bring their own hydration systems. Primary aid stations are stocked with water, soda, gels, and various snacks such as fruit, chips, and sandwiches. Water-only drops are also positioned at specific points on the course. 50K runners may utilize drop bags at the main aid station near the start-finish area.
The race utilizes public-use trails that are popular with mountain bikers; runners are expected to share the trail and yield to other users if encountered. Due to the environment and crowd size, pets are not permitted at the event. Parking is available at the trail system with overflow space on an adjacent forest service road. Registration includes a race shirt for those who sign up by the designated cutoff date. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
