Extra Mile Backyard Ultra : Durham, NC
The event is held at 2805 Meridian Parkway in Durham, North Carolina. It centers on a backyard ultra format in which participants run a 2-mile neighborhood loop on the hour for a planned 12-hour period, allowing a maximum of 24 miles for those who complete every loop. There is no minimum mileage required.
The backyard ultra uses a pledge-per-mile fundraising model for a mission trip in 2027. Backyard ultra participants are asked to secure at least two sponsors; each sponsor donates three dollars for every loop the runner completes. Registration for the backyard ultra is free.
In addition to the backbone ultra format, the event offers individual race options at set distances and fees:
- 2 miles - $20 registration fee
- 4 miles - $25 registration fee
- 6 miles - $30 registration fee
- 8 miles - $35 registration fee
All registered racers receive food and a shirt. Between loops there will be music, worship, and bible study sessions, and participants may stay on site for worship and prayer activities during the downtime. The event emphasizes repeated hourly loops, community support, and fundraising through per-mile pledges. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
