Equinox Marathon (Fairbanks, Alaska)
The Equinox Marathon is an annual road and trail running event held in Fairbanks, Alaska, scheduled in the third week of September near the autumnal equinox. The 2026 edition is the 63rd annual marathon and includes a relay for teams; the relay series is in its 33rd year.
Most of the marathon course runs on trails and includes a sustained climb over Ester Dome followed by a second climb over the same feature. The event uses a generous 10 hour time cutoff, which accommodates steady-paced hikers as well as runners. Aid station information, a detailed course description, and a mile marker map are provided for participants.
Event logistics and participant support are documented on the event site. Online registration is available and bib pickup for 2026 is scheduled for September 17 and 18 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Beaver Sports, 3480 College Rd. Race results and all-time records are published after the event, and awards are part of the race program.
The race takes place as the Fairbanks summer transitions into fall, when leaves commonly turn yellow and orange and community members come out to run, volunteer, and spectate.
