About the race
The Sap Run Scramble is a muddy, slippery trail event through the Embark Maple Woods during syrup season. The main course is a 5K loop that follows old logging roads, dry washes and deer paths across steep hillsides and often goes off-trail, so participants need to follow course markers and pay attention to terrain.
There are two ways to take part: the Foodie 5K Scramble and a Last Person Standing race option. The Foodie 5K includes maple-based snack stops roughly every kilometer, a sugar house tour, and a post-scramble gathering with wood-fired pizzas, beverages and music at Ramp Camp. The Last Person Standing format requires completing the same 5K lap with about 1000 feet of ascent within one hour, then repeating that lap every hour until only one competitor has completed every loop in under an hour. Last Person Standing registration is handled separately via Ultra Signup.
The farm offers free rustic camping with basic facilities such as a porta-potty, water jugs and a community fire. Recommended equipment includes sturdy shoes, hiking poles, a water bottle and a headlamp for those attempting the Last Person Standing route. The course is rain, snow or shine, and snack and aid stations are available during the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
