About the race
The Elk Kings Trail Races take place in the Tillamook Forest in northwestern Oregon and are based at the Smith Homestead, part of the Tillamook Forest Center. The event date is Saturday, October 17, 2026. Parking, bib pickup, shuttles, and the finish line are at Smith Homestead.
Three courses are offered:
- 50K runs on the Wilson River Trail and does not ascend Elk or Kings mountains.
- 25K is steep and technical single-track that summits Elk and Kings mountains.
- 11 mile point to point on the Wilson River Trail, with 2100' of gain and 2400' of loss.
Course and logistics notes: the 50K course was modified because of a landslide and now starts at the Footbridge trailhead, runs east to the official end of the Wilson River Trail, then returns to finish at Smith Homestead. Terrain includes smooth dirt ribbon beside the river and rockier sections. The 25K includes scrambling on rocky paths and exposed sections on the summits. All races finish at Smith Homestead; every finisher receives an Elk Kings pint glass.
On race morning all participants must pick up their bibs at Smith Homestead; photo ID is required. There is no parking at the start lines; racers park at Jones Creek Day Use Area and use shuttles (about a 10 minute ride). There are potties at Smith Homestead and at the starts.
Registration fees vary by distance and date. Registrations are non transferable and non refundable; cancellations more than 30 days before the race receive a 50% credit toward a future Go Beyond Racing event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
