Elk-Kings Trail Races
Elk-Kings takes place in the Tillamook Forest in Oregon’s Coast Range, based at the Smith Homestead at the Tillamook Forest Center. The forest is described as a lush rainforest with giant ferns, tall trees, rocky terrain, and single-track alongside the Wilson River. The event has run for more than 13 years.
Race options:
- 25K steep, technical single-track summiting Elk and Kings mountains
- 11 miles point to point on the Wilson River Trail with 2100' gain and 2400' loss
The 25K includes scrambling on rocky paths to reach both summits and a steep descent back toward the Wilson River Trail; exposure is noted on sections of this course. The 11 mile course starts at Elk Creek, stays on the Wilson River Trail, and avoids the mountain summits.
Logistics are centered at Smith Homestead. All racers pick up bibs race morning at Smith Homestead and must present photo ID; there is no bib pickup at the start lines. Parking is at Jones Creek Day Use Area with shuttles to start areas; there is no parking at the starts. Smith Homestead serves as the finish line and has potties.
Registration fees vary by date and distance. There are no transfers and no refunds; cancellations more than 30 days before the race receive a 50% credit toward a future Go Beyond Racing event, otherwise no credit. Finish line provisions include beverage offerings, live results, awards for top three men, women, and non-binary finishers per distance, three deep age-group awards, raffle prizes, and an Elk-Kings pint glass for every finisher. Some nearby campgrounds are closed for season while Elk Creek and Diamond Mill remain open. The organizers acknowledge the traditional homelands of the Tillamook, Siletz, and Clatskanie Tribes.
