The Duff Dog Backyard Ultra is a last runner standing event held at Blue Mounds State Park near Luverne, Minnesota. The competition follows a standard backyard ultra format where participants must complete a specific distance every hour to remain in the race.
Course Information
The race takes place on a runner-friendly loop course that utilizes the established trail system within the state park. The terrain consists of approximately 95% grass, with the remaining sections featuring small amounts of gravel and a short paved path. Each loop is exactly 4 miles 880 feet (approximately 6.7056 kilometers) in length.
Race Format and Rules
Participants must follow specific regulations to maintain eligibility throughout the event:
- Each loop starts precisely one hour after the previous one begins.
- Runners must be inside the starting corral when the starting bell rings.
- Every loop must be finished within the one-hour time limit.
- No personal aid is allowed while on the course; assistance is only permitted between loops.
- Trekking poles and other artificial aids are prohibited.
- The race is open-ended and continues until only one runner can complete a final solo loop.
