Driftless Flyathlon
The Driftless Flyathlon is a multi-day, in-person event held October 2 to October 4, 2026 at Yellow River State Forest - Paint Creek Unit in Harpers Ferry, Iowa. Organized by Running Rivers, the event combines three activities: trail running, fly fishing, and craft beer. It is presented as largely inclusive rather than highly competitive and is open to all ages. Free parking is available at the venue.
The event emphasizes conservation and responsible recreation. All fishing during the event uses catch-and-release methods and follows fishing rules approved for the area. Race guidance highlights proper trail etiquette and Leave No Trace principles. Funds raised by participants are directed toward habitat improvement and reclamation projects for native fish in the watershed where the event is held. Running Rivers works with federal and state agencies and nonprofit conservation partners on those projects. The event also encourages local community involvement and spending in the host region. A ticket price is listed at USD 81.88 and the stated refund policy is no refunds. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
