About the race

Dead Cow Gully Backyard Ultra is a last-one-standing running event held on a rural cattle property in Queensland. The format requires competitors to complete a fixed loop of 6.706 km every hour, repeating the loop each hour until only one runner remains on the start line.

The course sits on a 1600-acre, sixth-generation cattle property called Iona, located about 11 km north of Nanango, QLD. The property includes an over 110-year-old homestead and a landscape of timbered ridges descending into partially cleared creek flats and creek lines.

Reasons runners stop include failing to complete the loop within the hour, missing the start line for the next loop, or choosing to withdraw. The event lists cumulative distances reached after multiple loops to show progression:

  • 1 loop : 6.706 km
  • 6 loops : 40.2 km
  • 15 loops : 100.5 km
  • 24 loops : 160.9 km
  • 119 loops : 798 km

The event is presented as a Backyard Ultra marathon format on private farmland and emphasizes repetitive hourly loops on a rural course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
