Dia de los Muertos Endurance Run
The Dia de los Muertos Endurance Run is a multi-duration loop event held at South Beach State Park in Newport, OR, just south of the Yaquina Bay Bridge. The course is mostly flat trail with a few paved sections; runners complete as many loops as possible within their chosen time period. Lap counting is electronic: each runner wears a chip on the bib and large screens display lap counts in real time.
Distances and options include:
- 48-hour individual and team relay
- 24-hour individual and team relay
- 12-hour individual
- 6-hour individual
The event incorporates cultural elements of Día de los Muertos. A live performance of traditional Mexican music and dance by Huehca Omeyocan takes place on the morning before the 48-hour race to mark the event start period.
Facilities and race support include a large aid station at the loop start and finish stocked with food, drinks, and essentials; a warming tent; a drop bag area; and space for personal tents. Runners may access their vehicles during the race. Hiking poles are permitted. Race shirts are included with registration; finishers who complete 26.2 miles or more receive a medal, and 50 mile and 100 mile achievements earn belt buckles.
