Trail Running in Crystal Cove State Park
The Crystal Cove Trail Run takes place in the El Moro area of Crystal Cove State Park, situated in Newport Beach. This event serves as the final race of the SoCalTrail season, featuring routes that traverse ridgelines and single-track trails just inland from the Pacific Ocean.
Participants can choose from three distinct distances:
- 15 km: A course covering 9.35 miles with 1,647 feet of elevation gain, including steep sections known as the Rock Garden, Elevator, and the Wall.
- 6 km: A 4.1-mile route with 696 feet of vertical gain featuring fire road climbs and ridgeline descents.
- 1 km: A short course for children under 14 that loops through the nature preserve.
The 15 km race includes a $2,000 prize purse distributed among the top female and male finishers. Aid stations are positioned along the courses, providing water, hydration drinks, and energy gels. The routes are marked with flour, ribbons, and directional signage.
The event site offers several amenities for registered runners, including a post-race breakfast featuring tacos and coffee, and a beer garden for those aged 21 and over. Participants receive a race shirt, a handcrafted finisher medal, and access to professional race photography. On-site services include sports massage bodywork and an awards ceremony for various age groups, ranging from under 20 to over 70.
Parking is available on-site for a fee, with an overflow lot located approximately one mile away. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
