Coz's Backyard Ultra
Coz's Backyard Ultra is a backyard ultra format event held at the Trenton Fish and Game Club in Holland Patent, NY. The course is a non-technical trail loop of approximately 3 1/3 miles with about 200' of ascent per lap, run on rolling double track with an out-and-back dirt road section through pines and hardwoods.
The format requires runners to complete one loop each hour. Runners who fail to be present when the whistle signals the start of the next loop are removed from competition. The event continues until a single runner completes a loop and is declared the winner, with an overall time limit of 30 hours; if more than one runner completes the full 30 hours, the fastest final lap determines the winner. Runners receive milestone recognition for cumulative distances such as half marathon, marathon, 50k, 50 mile, 100k, and 100 mile.
Each athlete is allocated a personal 12' x 12' area near the start and finish for gear and crew. A runner-only aid station provides basic items such as water, electrolyte drink, fruit, candy, chips, pickles, and coffee; a communal aid table is also available and pizza is supplied at one point in the evening. Runners must carry a headlamp with backup light between sunset and sunrise. Poles are permitted. Race directors may pause or stop participation for safety or inclement weather.
