Coastal Walk & 5K Run
The Coastal Walk & 5K Run takes place at Assateague State Park on October 17, 2026. Proceeds support the Macky & Pam Stansell House of Coastal Hospice, an inpatient facility on the Isle of Wight Bay that provides hospice care for patients who cannot be safely managed at home.
Participants may choose from these options:
- 2 mile Walk on the paved bike path, out-and-back.
- 5K Run that begins on the paved bike path for about one mile, then continues on the beach.
The 5K course offers two surface options on the beach: running near the water on hard sand, or running near but not on the dunes on softer sand. The 2 mile walk remains entirely on the paved bike path.
Registration for the event includes a dri-fit long sleeve shirt. Medals will be awarded to placing participants in each age category. The published registration fee is $35 per participant and sponsorship opportunities are available.
The event is presented with support from Assateague State Park and Maryland Park Services and is organized by Coastal Hospice with Beachwood, Inc. Custom Builders listed as a presenter. Dogs are welcome if friendly and leashed; organizers note many owners put shoes on their dogs because of plants with thistles in the area.
