Event Overview

The Circuit of Glendalough is a mountain running event located in County Wicklow. The course covers a distance of 16.40 km with a total ascent of 1000 meters. This event is part of the Leinster Championship and is categorized as having difficult terrain, high ascent, and a distance exceeding 10 km.

Course and Navigation

The race route is not marked, and runners must possess navigation skills to traverse the peaks. While participants must visit specific checkpoints in a set order, there is free route choice between them. GPS devices are not permitted for navigation during the event. The course includes the following peaks:

  • Camaderry (698m)
  • Lugduff (652m)
  • Mullacor (657m)
  • Derrybawn (474m)

The start and finish are located at the beach area near the Glendalough upper lake car park.

Mandatory Equipment

Participants are required to bring a Level C advanced kit, which includes:

  • A waterproof jacket with an integrated hood and taped seams
  • Waterproof full leg cover
  • Hat or buff, gloves, and a whistle
  • A foil blanket or bivvy bag
  • A map of the route and a compass
  • A charged mobile phone and emergency food
  • Capacity to carry at least 500 mL of water

Logistics

Registration takes place at the upper lake car park beach area. Parking is available at the site for a fee, and participants are encouraged to carpool.
